How to activate your email account with Outlook 2007/2010/2013

There have been no changes since the launch of Microsoft Outlook 2007. Follow the steps below to activate your email account. In the example, we used the email address info@kooz.nl. Needless to say, you should use your own email address and the password you’ve received from us.

It is no secret that Outlook 2007 has issues recognizing IMAP folders. We therefore suggest you don’t use Outlook 2007.

  • Open Outlook and click on ‘File’ in the top left-hand corner.
    If you’re using Outlook for the first time you can skip this step.
  • Click on ‘Account settings’ on your screen.
  • ​Then click on 'Account settings...'. Logical, no? :)

  • A new window will now be opened.
  • In the overview of linked accounts click on ‘New’.

  • The wizard to add a new account will now be launched.
    If you’re using Outlook for the first time, the process starts here.
  • Click on ‘Manually configure server settings or additional server types’.
  • ​Click on ‘Next’.
  • Select the option ‘POP or IMAP’.
  • Click on 'Next'.
  • Enter the details below.
  • The name will be displayed to emails to your customers, so we suggest you use the name of your online store, as that looks more professional.
  • Your email address and user name are one and the same. You know those, right? ;)
  • The password is the one you’ve received from us, and it is different from the one you use to enter your admin panel.
  • Once you’ve entered all these details click on ‘More settings…’. Don’t forget to do this!
  • Go to the tab ‘Outgoing mail server’.
  • Tick the option ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’.
  • Go to the ‘Advanced’ tab.
  • Check whether the ‘Incoming server’ (IMAP) port number is 143. If not, you need to change it.
  • Under ‘Outgoing server’ (SMTP) you need to tick ‘This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)’. Then change the port number to 465.
  • Outlook has some issues finding standard folders, so let us give you a hand.
  • Under ‘Root folder path’ enter ‘INBOX’.
  • Then click ‘OK’. Almost done…
  • Now the ‘Advanced settings’ window should be closed.
  • Click on ‘Next’.
  • Outlook will now check your email account settings and send a test email to your email address.

Did you receive an error message? Then check the previous steps and try again. It can happen to anyone, don’t worry!

  •  If all went well, you’re now done. Click ‘Close’ and start sending and receiving your emails via Microsoft Outlook.
