How does the cookie statement work?

Cookie statement

You can comply with the cookie law by informing your visitors about cookie use and asking them for permission to place cookies. To do this, go to Settings/Legal/Cookie statement in the menu.

The cookie banner is at the bottom of the window by default. This is because visitors experience a pop-up version (which covers the entire screen) as annoying and therefore reduces the conversion rate.

The cookie texts are written for all 13 languages that our platform allows. These have been checked and approved by legal advisers. You no longer have to do this yourself!

This is how the cookie notification looks like in your store, depending on how the cookie settings are set in the management environment. (for example, if you have not ticked 'analytical cookies' in the management environment, they will not be shown in the store)

Do I have to have a cookie notification enabled?

For websites and web shops that are made for visitors in Europe, there is at least a notification requirement for the use of cookies. This notification obligation is limited to functional cookies. For a webshop these are cookies, for example for storing the products in the shopping cart. Depending on the purpose for which you want to use the data, you are obliged to request permission. This includes keeping track of the behavior of your visitors, or keeping track of the products that have been viewed in order to focus an advertising campaign for the visitor.

Whether you as a website manager must inform your visitors about cookies depends on the settings within your webshop. If you only use functional cookies, you only have a notification obligation. By enabling the cookie notification, your visitors must always accept the functional cookies. You cannot accept this because otherwise your webshop will not function properly.

You can then enter a notification text and a Cookie statement. By default you will find a 'concept cookie statement' in which all the purposes for which cookies can be placed are stated. Please note that as a webshop manager you are responsible for (the correctness of) all legal texts.

We recommend that you only state the purposes that you actually use. Which cookies are placed with visitors to your website depends on the settings of your webshop and the modules / links you use.

Overview

We have listed all the cookies that your webshop could place:

Functional permission

The store will function properly with these cookies. The visitor cannot disable these cookies because the web store will not work properly. Think of the shopping cart. If the functional cookies were disabled and the visitor places a product in the shopping cart and clicks through to the shopping cart page, you should not remember this and the shopping cart is empty again.

The affiliate tracker is also loaded with the functional cookies. Consider the following partners:

  • Daisycon
  • TradeTracker (Campaign)
  • TradeTracker (Tracking Group)
  • Affilinet

It is therefore the intention that you carefully check the cookie settings with these partners and that you mention this in your Privacy Statement.

The Google Tag manager now also falls under the functional cookies. Super handy because this way, for example, the chat function will work immediately without the cookies being accepted.
(Note: you are responsible for setting the data correctly. You can find more information in this support article from Google).

The support article "What is the Google Tag Manager" can also help you on your way.

Analytical / tracking cookies

With these cookies, the visitor gives permission to load his or her visitor behavior into Google Analytics. For example, you can see via which site the visitors came to your web store, which pages are viewed and when or from which page the visitor leaves your store.

Marketing cookies

With these cookies the visitor gives permission to you to collect information that can be used for advertising purposes. This information is loaded into your Google Analytics account and with this you can place targeted advertisements via, for example, Google Adwords or facebook.

Design

You can also adjust the design of the Cookie Notice.

The background color of the buttons and the text color on the buttons which you can set via Settings/Legal/Cookie statement are adopted for the button with the cookie notification. The cookie notification also takes over the font of your webshop. The text color and background color are standard dark gray on white, so that it is always legible.

You will see that after the first cookie notification, it says "read more". If your visitors click on this, they can be redirected to a separate cookie page where you can place a more extensive cookie explanation.

In the editor of the Cookie statement you can choose the correct page for this. First create this page, name it for example "cookie statement", fill this page with your statement and then link it.
